Can I just take a moment to thank the art community of tumblr?  I’ve seen several posts about how sketchbooks are so so so personal and important to their owners and how much trust you have in someone else when you show them your book, and I subconsciously stored that info away a long time ago.

Well, yesterday in my internship I accidentally let a band class out too early and I had them still sit in their seats to wait for the bell and in the midst of all the chatter one of the girls asked, “Ms. B, do you want to see my wolves?” and handed me her sketchbook.

I was so happy!  I’ve only worked with these kids since January, and she trusted me to look at her art?!  It made my day, that much is certain!  I made sure to handle it gently, look through it in an unhurried way, and complimented the drawings when I gave it back (and they were good!).

I can’t begin to explain how much it means to me to be a safe adult figure to these kids; it’s going to be so hard to leave at the end of the year.
